Abyssinia Cement Plc, which specializes in producing OPC, was established on 70hct of land in Chancho Woreda of North Shoa Zone with an outlay of over 60 million Br in October 2007.  The factory has the capacity to produce 45,000 tonnes of cement annually.     Laboratory results from sample examinations of Abyssinia's products have shown that they are up to standard. Destined to become the first fully privately owned cement plant in the country to start production, the factory's products have been well received.Established with an investment outlay of 100 million birr, the factory currently produces 300 tonnes of cement a day, with an expansion plan set to double that amount. In less than two years' time, the company will increase its production to 2000 tonnes a day.The factory, built on eight hectares of land the company secured in Chantcho, a small town some 40 km north of Addis Ababa. The company has already embarked upon an expansion project worth 80 million birr for the cement production line on the same plot of land it secured on a land-lease bases.The company, which sells its products under the trade mark "Tenkara Siminto"- meaning "strong cement" in Amharic - also secured an accreditation letter from the Quality and Standard Authority of Ethiopia, which certified that the product conforms to Ethiopia's standard.Abyssinia's currently operational cement plant and the other one under erection will each have a maximum production capacity of 2,000 tonnes per day.Abyssinia Cement has currently created job opportunities for 500 people.
