Whilst researching the name lualua we came across an elderly man from Kasama who said that a long time ago, a kind of frog (luo) lived in the short grass (luani) by the stream. Local people used to call the area luani lwa luo which means grass of frogs. This was shortened to lualuo but sounds like lualua when spoken quickly - hence the name LuaLua
