Professional hunter and outfitter, Jaco Oosthuizen, is a founder member of Game Trackers Africa which is currently the marketing agent for both Ondjamba Safaris, Pori Trackers of Africa (T) Ltd. and East Africa Trophy Hunters Ltd. These four companies, all owned and operated under the professional guidance of Jaco himself, operate respectively in Southern Africa, East Africa (Tanzania), Botswana, Namibia and Cameroon in order to cater to your specific needs. Ondjamba Safaris was established in 1998 as the result of a life long dream finally realized by Jaco. Ondjamba is a Namibian native word for elephant, originating from the Owahimba tribe, amongst whom he partly grew up. Jaco's great-grandfather (SJ Oosthuizen 1828-1917) was a very skilled hunter, who hunted amongst the famous white hunters who tamed west and central Africa with great courage during the mid to late 1800′s. SJ's enormous passion for elephant hunting (and upon who's experience several written Dutch publications were based) encouraged Jaco to call his company after the single animal SJ had most respect for the elephant aka Ondjamba. Jaco was raised in a family of big game hunters in partly untamed Namibia where he first learned and mastered his hunting skills. He started off studying law after school, but his love for wildlife, hunting and his urge for adventure encouraged him to become a professional hunter. In 1994 he obtained his professional hunters license in all South-African provinces and gained extensive experience under the guidance of several experienced outfitters and professional hunters. In 1996 he also spent several months in East-Africa's Kenya on a very adventurous culling expedition. After returning from Kenya, he continued hunting extensively in Southern Africa before getting involved with the establishment of Bona Bona Safaris, of which he was also then a founder member. In his capacity of hunting outfitter, professional hunter and operations manager he obtained very early successes in the hunting industry. This, finally, resulted in the establishment of Ondjamba Safaris. Very soon Jaco established himself a great reputation that caused the expansion of his company (1999) further into East Africa's Tanzania – the last frontier! Jaco rapidly established excellent hunting areas in the world famous Selous Game Reserve and Moyowosi Game Reserve. This contributed in large part to the growth and strength of his hunting outfit which first resulted in him obtaining shares in Pori Trackers of Africa (T) Ltd. and now finally also resulted in the establishment of East Africa Trophy Hunters Ltd. These Tanzanian based companies take care of Jaco's interests in this beautiful East African country where Jaco believes your dreams are awaiting you . . . We offer many kinds of guides and support staff during our mountain climbs and safaris. During a standard or luxury safari, explore Tanzania's parks with a Duma Explorer driver-guide; or during a budget camping safari, travel with both a driver-guide and chef. Our passionate and highly trained mountain crew totals about 150 people, including guides, assistant guides, cooks and porters. Many of our guides and cooks began their careers with us as porters and have been part of Duma Explorer since we started in 2004. Our mountain guides each have a minimum seven years experience hiking Kilimanjaro, while most of our porters, assistant guides and cooks have been climbing for at least five years. Duma's chief guides and most assistant guides are Wilderness First Responder certified. Many of our cooks and porters have first-aid training. During a Kilimanjaro climb, hike with at least one head guide, an assistant guide, cook and several porters.
