Uganda Fish Packers Ltd. is a subsidiary of Alpha Group. Alpha employs state-of-the-art technology in all its factories in Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, which process freshwater and marine fish products, as well as meat and dairy products. With a total of nine fish processing plants under its umbrella, Alpha Group is by far the largest exporter of both freshwater fish and seafood in East Africa. Affiliated with markets throughout the world and committed to delivering quality products, Alpha Group commands an ever-growing customer base. The corporate office centrally controls the activities of the individual factories, and the international trade and marketing center plays a major role in marketing. Uganda Fish Packers has a fully approved Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) system and a state-of-the-art infrastructure that meets European Union standards. Uganda Fish Packers was the first fish processing company in Uganda to be ISO certified. Product samples from every batch of production are analyzed in the factory's microbiology laboratory, and samples from every product consignment are tested for microbiological and chemical parameters in an external laboratory, Chemiphar (U) Ltd. Uganda Fish Packers has a well-established system of product traceability. Each unit produced is marked with a unique traceability code number and can be traced back to the source of supply. Uganda Fish Packers ensures quality at every step in its operations. Raw Material Procurement: Fishing Boats, Fish Landing Sites, Transport Trucks The company owns a large fleet of fishing and transport boats for collecting raw material. Uganda Fish Packers also has its own approved fish landing sites, under the direct supervision of Department of Fisheries' Resources. To have complete control over the supply chain and product traceability, the company registers and trains all subagents and fishermen. Processing Plant: Uganda Fish Packers Ltd. has a well-designed processing facility, which meets the requirements of the European Union council directives, and the standards set by the fish quality assurance rules of Uganda. The processing steps in the factory are as follows: Raw Material Reception and Washing: This is a critical control point, and the quality control staff thoroughly check the source and inspect the raw material. Trimming and Washing: Fillets are trimmed according to product specification.. Temporary Storage: Uganda Fish Packers' raw material chill room has a 50-ton capacity for intermediate storage. Filleting and Skinning: The company has a very well arranged manual filleting line, staffed with well-trained and experienced employees. Grading and Weighing: Raw material is weighed as per standard grades. Setting: Fillets are arranged in freezer trays. Freezing/Chilling: Uganda Fish Packers has two plate freezers and two blast freezers for chilling or freezing products. The total production capacity of the plant is 80 tons of raw materials per day. Packing: Products are packed in paper cartons (frozen products) or styrofoam boxes as per product specifications. Storage in Chill Room/Cold Store: Uganda Fish Packers has 300-ton capacity cold store for frozen products and 100-ton capacity chill room for fresh products. Shipment: By air or by sea The Nile Perch (Lates Niloticus) is the largest freshwater fish in the world, and can grow to more than 230 kilograms (500 lbs). It is wonderfully sweet, firmly textured, highly nutritious, virtually odorless, and rich in trace nutrients. Nile Perch also contains one of the highest levels of omega 3 fatty acids (700mg/100 grams), which studies suggest can help to reduce the risk of heart disease. The source of all raw material used by Uganda Fish Packers is Lake Victoria, the second largest freshwater lake in the world. The company has an installed capacity of processing up to 80 tons of raw material per day. Production Capacity The factory has capacity to process 80 tons of raw materials per day. FAGE is the umbrella organisation of exporters of non-traditional exports (NTEs). FAGE's membership comprises over 2,500 exporting firms and individuals. Non-traditional exports are goods and services exported other than cocoa, gold and other mineral resources in their raw state, unprocessed timber and electricity.    FAGE's mission is to facilitate the business of Ghanaian exporting firms by contributing to the development of the non-traditional export sector. FAGE assists exporting firms in developing and marketing their products and in facilitating transactions for people interested in doing business in Ghana.

It is a public company, listed on the official stock exchange, and ranks among the 30 biggest companies in Mauritius. The company is the largest food and grocery wholesale distributor and services over 3000 customers and 60 hotels nation-wide, with a fleet of 40 trucks. It is also engaged in manufacturing, producing 8000 metric tons of chicken, ice-cream under a license from Nestlé/Dairymaid, yoghurt, flavoured milk and sanitary pads under license from Kimberly-Clark. It is actively pursuing a strategy to diversify further into manufacturing. It is implementing a poultry-rearing project in Mozambique and looking at Tanzania and Namibia as future poles of development in the region.
