Toyota Malawi has been serving automoblile owners since 1963 and traded as Mobile Motors then. It was started by the late Derek and Jean Friend who later had partnership with late Tiny Rowland of Lonrho who had some business interest in Malawi. From early 70’s through 80’s saw Mobile Motors undergoing limited expansion through a controlled market. In the mid 90’s TMC and TTC renewed their interest in the Toyota brand in Malawi. This called for a corporate transformation hence it underwent physical restructuring and major capital investment, adopting its present name. Today, Toyota Malawi is the official distributor of Toyota vehicles and Hino trucks in Malawi and boasts modern facilities in Blantyre and Lilongwe. Remarkably Toyota Malawi has managed to increase its share of the market from 20% to 50% within five years. It has since then maintained the number one position.
The company has invested heavily in all the workshops to make sure all staff have been fully trained and have the special tools they require. Our workshops are now recognized as the market leader in the country and credit must go to the managers in each department. On top of this we have a state of the art bodyshop that is as good as any modern facility today. However, without the back up of the spares Department we would not be able to provide the high level of service. Southern Cross has very active sales terms for all brands not only in Lusaka but throughout the Copperbelt. In the drive to continuously improve our quality of service, three specialist vehicles have been added to the company list fleet. Firstly a fully equipped service van that can travel throughout Zambia providing a mobile service. Secondly a recovery vehicle that can attend to any of our clients at a moments notice.
